Everyone must be part of the circular system

More and more companies and organizations are producing products from recycled materials. To be able to do that there has to be access to recycled material. Sweden is the world champion in recycling deposit packaging, but that is not enough. We need to do more!

There are increasing demands on producers that the products they produce are recyclable and that recycled materials are used in production.  It is now important that we consumers take our responsibility and collect and recycle the waste.

The sailors on Gotland Runt Offshore Race consume almost 15,000 meals during the demanding hours at sea. Together with KSSS's strong partners and participants, we are now aiming to map and recycle 100% of the waste produced in this unique test platform. Together we can ensure that the circular system works.

Stena Recycling is the market leader in developing sustainable circular solutions in waste management.

Coca-Cola in Sweden became the first market in the world to switch to 100% recycled plastic in its PET bottles, 2020.

Coop delivers food to the sailors and can influence which packaging material goes into the equation.

Here's how it works:

Before starting, the sailors will receive waste bags in their race kit so that they can sort their waste into the fractions of deposit packages, plastic, metal, paper, glass and other household waste.

After the finish in Sandhamn, the sailors will fill in a form about how much of each fraction they have with them. KSSS has then together with Värmdö municipality and KSSS partners ensured that these factions are handled correctly in Sandhamn.

The project is long-term and the ongoing pandemic has not made things easier for us. We see it as an important start and even if it happens on a small scale this year, we will make a difference.
