Size Record in Gotland Runt
The world's largest carbon fiber sloop will start in Gotland Runt this year! The 175-foot-long boat, Ravenger (formerly Pink Gin VI), built by Baltic Yachts, sets a new size record in the history of Gotland Runt. It will be a majestic sight to see this beautiful creation in the waters around Sandhamn.
Ravenger was built by Baltic Yachts in 2017 and is the yard's second-largest boat of all time. There are many impressive aspects about this boat. The mast measures 70 meters, which is 14 meters taller than a J-boat mast. Despite the hull being entirely made of carbon fiber, the total weight is around 250 tons, with 90 tons consisting of ballast. The sail area is approximately 1600 square meters, and the asymmetric spinnaker measures around 1840 square meters. The engine has 1400 horsepower.
During the winter, Ravenger underwent a complete renovation at Baltic's yard in Jakobstad, Finland. Among other updates, the sail plan and rig have been updated, new winches and deck equipment installed. A 9-meter-long bowsprit has been added, the midship cockpit now features a bimini top, parts of the boat have been repainted, new interiors installed, and numerous other smaller details onboard have been upgraded.
As of now, the boat is on its way from Finland to Sweden, aiming to reach Sandhamn on the Friday before the start of Gotland Runt. The hope is for her to anchor between Sandhamn and Lökholmen, creating a powerful silhouette for visitors in Sandhamn. The draft in port with the telescopic keel is 4.5 meters in its shallowest position and 8 meters when sailing. Therefore, the mark in Visby has been asked to be moved out slightly to avoid grounding during the rounding!
During Gotland Runt, the crew will be 28-30 persons. The permanent crew consists of 9 members, with an additional international crew from boats like Raven and Comanche, etc.
After Gotland Runt, Ravenger will sail around Swedish waters before heading down to the Mediterranean in late summer for a visit to Barcelona during the America's Cup. The plan thereafter is not fully decided, but we are likely to see her in some Superyacht regattas worldwide.
Thank you, Klabbe Nylöf, Manager at Ravenger, for the chat. We look forward to seeing the boat in Sandhamn and wish the team the best of luck!
